OVERVIEW of the Chorégies d'Orange 2023

Only one opera production is on display at the Chorégies d'Orange 2023 but what an opera! Carmen de Bizet is a work that seems made for the great stage of the ancient theatre. With Jean-Louis Grinda (the current brilliant director of the Chorégies) at the helm, the production will be spectacular, especially with performers the size of Marie-Nicole Lemieux and Jean-François Borras. The mezzo always brings a subtle refinement to its interpretations while the tenor is undoubtedly the best Don José of his generation. The rest of the cast was chosen with care as we find Ildebrando D'Arcangelo in Escamillo and the revelation Alexandra Marcellier in Micaëla.

Carmen is an opera that always reserves great highlights with obviously very famous tunes but especially a story where the lively emotion sometimes draws tears. The event is not to be missed in a natural setting as breathtaking as the ancient Orange Theatre.

The 2023 season of the Chorégies d'Orange is no exception to the rule with concerts, recitals, dance and a luxury movie concert since

Débora Waldman, head of the Orchestre national Avignon-Provence, is the musical director of the Mécano de la Générale, the hilarious masterpiece by Buster Keaton. The great stars of piano and opera are in Orange this summer. Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov, a couple in the city as well as on the stage, come with baritone Elchin Azizov for an exceptional gala evening where they will perform the great tunes, duets and trios of Giuseppe Verdi’s operas. The event is important because the soprano is currently at the top with phenomenal vocal means. The Nice Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Michelangelo Mazza.
The Chorégies especially spoil us this 2023 season with the pianists. Evgeny Kissin the magnificent fills the superb acoustics of the ancient theatre with a splendid program of recital, Bach, Mozart, Debussy and especially Rachmaninov and his Studies-Paintings. The concert of Khatia Buniatishvili should be booked as soon as possible. The piano star performs for the first time on the stage of the Chorégies d'Orange. She performs the poignant piano concerto No. 23 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a masterpiece by a magnificent artist. The excellent Kirill Karabits who conducts the beautiful National Orchestra of Lyon chose Rachmaninov’s symphony No. 2 as a complement to the program.

Grace is at the rendezvous of the Chorégies 2023 with the Ballet du Teatro alla Scala of Milan. The coming of the orchestra was a very big highlight of the previous edition, it is now the turn of the ballet company of the famous Teatro alla Scala of Milan to amaze festival-goers.

In a different genre but eclecticism is also the mark of the great festivals, a concert of the music of the films of Clint Eastwood is programmed with this Eastwood Symphonic where Kyle Eastwood, the son musician of the actor is on stage to pay tribute to his father.

The 2023 season of the Chorégies d'Orange with the flamboyant Carmen and all the stars promises to be sunny.
