OTHONIEL COSMOS or the Ghosts of Love

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its designation as European Capital of Culture and the 30th anniversary of its inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage list, the city of Avignon has entrusted an enchanting artist with the task of investing in its emblematic sites and museums, to reveal its richness and uniqueness.
From 28 June 2025 to 4 January 2026, Jean-Michel Othoniel will deploy in the city of popes a gigantic artistic constellation, with Love for celestial vault. A major event, a first on a national scale, the largest project ever conceived by the sculptor.
With this exceptional exhibition, spread over 10 unique places, Jean-Michel Othoniel will present 250 works for Avignon.
The Palais des Papes, the Pont d'Avignon, the Musée du Petit Palais-Louvre in Avignon, the Musée Calvet, the Muséum Requien, the Musée Lapidaire, the Couvent Sainte-Claire, the Bains Pommer, the Collection Lambert and the Place du Palais.
The exhibition «OTHONIEL COSMOS ou les Fantômes de l'Amour» draws a gigantic monumental route that populates the free institutions and historical sites of the city.
The artist has developed works that will be revealed from one place to another crossing sculpture and painting, bricks and pearls, astrolabes and fountains, gold and glass, totems and infinite knots. Articulated around the love passion this exhibition its like is orchestrated as a great operatic machinery with, for culminating in early August, an installation and a performance in the Cour d'Honneur of the Palais des Papes, specially choreographed by Carolyn Carlson for Hugo Marchand and Caroline Osmont.
