Caumont-Centre d'Art is honouring Niki de Saint Phalle

This summer, Caumont-Centre d'Art is honouring Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002). Popularized by her incredible Nanas, the French-American artist has developed a powerful universe, engaged, vibrant with energy and poetry.
This exhibition highlights the influence of animals and imaginary creatures on the artist throughout his life. Through this never-before-addressed theme, the exhibition shows how his work throughout his career is populated by a fascinating magical bestiary in which symbols, myths, autobiographical narrative and the legacy of surrealism are intertwined.
The exhibition retraces the entire career of Niki de Saint Phalle by offering an unprecedented reading through the prism of animal representation. The exhibition’s itinerary is conceived as an initiatory fairy tale that invites you to wander among facetious creatures before entering an imaginary world where all beings live in a fairytale harmony. The works of this artist often have an autobiographical dimension, evoking her life marked by a thirst for permanent creation, which will lead her towards large-scale sculpture. The fantastic bestiary is particularly visible in her monumental public projects (fountains, play areas) and her architectural projects that she began in the 1960s.
